Resources and economy
Five resources drive everything — buildings, the army, research and trade.
Kinds of resources
The basic building material. Produced by the Woodcutter, bonus from Forest terrain.
A building material. Produced by the Quarry, bonus from Rocks terrain.
For units and advanced buildings. Produced by the Iron Mine, bonus from Mountains.
Feeds the army (unit upkeep). Produced by the Farm, bonus from Plains.
A rare resource. The Town Hall mints it (as does Gold Vein terrain) and the same Town Hall stores it — its ceiling is its own, independent of the Warehouse, and holds about ten days of minting.
Production
- Production is worked out per hour from building levels.
- It is raised by the racial and research bonuses, the terrain bonus and the hero bonus.
- Wood, stone and iron bonuses add up rather than multiply.
- Only the Town Hall mints gold, and only a Gold Vein tile raises it.
Storage
- The Warehouse has a capacity — above that limit a resource simply stops accumulating.
- Gold has a ceiling of its own in the Town Hall, independent of the Warehouse.
Food and hunger
The army eats food — troops on the march and reinforcements standing with an ally eat from the village they set out from.
Troops on the road starve too, so an attack arrives in smaller numbers than it left with.
